"Hey..are you a Realtor???"

la quinta luxury realtorThis is one of the wackiest ways I've met a buyer yet.  They haven't closed yet, so still not 100%, but offer is in and we'll see..

I was returning the key to the lockbox after previewing a home for an investor of mine.  He'd just called me and asked me to go look at the new Foreclosure I'd just sent him a couple hours before.  Of course, I was at the barn (it was 5 pm), checking the horses and had my little dog, Spartacus, with me.  Off I went.

Spartacus was barking from the car, I turned to see and there's a huge SUV sitting at the curb.  The window rolls down and a man hollers at me, "Hey are you a Realtor?"

"I might be," I answered him.  "Why...Are you a Buyer?"

"Yes, we are and we have 10 days to find a home.  Can you show us this one?'

Now understand that I have my barn car, my boots on, and my baseball cap..looking VERY professional.

"Yes I can if you don't already have a Realtor."  I told him.

"No we don't..this could be YOUR lucky day" he said as he and a tall, older woman exited the car and headed up the walkway.

I shook his hand, looked him in the eye and said, "No..actually, this could be YOUR lucky day.  I'm the best Realtor in town and you just found me."  He laughed and laughed as we went into the house.  I showed them 2 other homes I knew of that we could get into without appointments, and might suit them.  Explained that on such short notice that was the best I could do.

I ended up meeting them the next day for 2 hours as that was all the time I had between my other showings.  I met them again on Friday.  They only wanted great buys, in great locations and no probate or short sales because we MUST close quickly.  OK..I found them the best properties within their perameters in the City they would consider, Palm Desert.  We wrote an offer yesterday.

Will it go anywhere?  Don't know.  What I do know is this...when you are least expecting it, things can pop and you'd better be ready to be flexible, adjust your schedule and KNOW the inventory.

Hi Kimberly,  I love your sense of hustle and that line is a classic: "Why...Are you a Buyer?"

Thatis a great story. I had that happen years ago when I was a new realtor and they ended up buying the house I met them in front of. It was my 1st million dollar sale. I hope it works out so well for you!

And you certainly wouldn't have been there if it weren't for the investor client asking you to preview the house for them. Thank them as well.

Kimberly,  It does not happen often but it does happen.  I closed a buyer many years ago in a similar way. He was sitting in front of a home I was previewing.  He did not have an agent. The rest is history.  I wish you and your buyer all the best.

Great Story. I once met a client while walking on the beach to take photographs for my web site. He asked me what  I was doing and he said he was about to try and contact a Realtor as he was going to put his condo on the market. I've had two transactions with him and a great referral. Worth walking the beach.

Funny story about being in your "barn" clothes.  I had something similar happen years ago but I did have my work clothes on!

Absolutely was their lucky day.  You were busy, but took the time to help them and that speaks volumes to your customer service.  Many agents wouldn't have been so accommodating.

Great story, thanks for sharing.  I think many Realtors have amazing stories about where we have acquired buyers and even strange seller stories too.  We even tell them to our other clients hahaha.  :)
