Actually thermal cameras are used to make sure that the radiant flooring is operating correctly.  Typically they are loops with joints and sometimes the hot water gets blocked and not all of the floor radiates heat.  The camera can see that.

Debbie,

I have visited with people that have radiant floors.  There is nothing like getting up on a cold dark morning and walking on a warm floor.  It says Good Morning.

Jay - Yes, I know.  That's why it would be really cool to see.  And, it prob. looks differeent for electric vs. water radiant heat.

Deb, this is a great post on radiant floors and clients should consider them especially in bathrooms...had one done in my master bath and it is wonderful in the winter.

Radiant heating is wonderful!  I have helped buy and sell homes with it in all climates such as Northern Arizona,  and Central Colorado.  Haven't seen as much of it here in Central Texas but sure would be nice to have in my bathroom on those rare chilly mornings LOL!

We don't often see radiant heated floors here in Sacramento.  However, I had an uncle living in Washington state, who had them.  They were absolutely wonderful.  I hadn't known they were there, but made a visit during the holidays one year, and was pleasantly surprised.

Debbie, glad to see radiant heat floors are becoming more popular here in the United States. My Wife's family in Germany had this in their home years ago.

Debbie

LOVE LOVE LOVE radiant heat floors. Never had them in my own houses but had friends who did. I sold a terrific townhouse in the Boston area to a couple (he was an architect) and they redesigned everything, with gorgeous tile floors with radiant heating in the bathrooms.  BUyers loved it when they went to sell and I held open houses...in the winter.

Have to agree here.  Have heated tiles in my bathroom and they are some of the best things to have in the winter.

I love this idea of heated floors.  My brother has them in his kitchen in the U.K.  The dog loves it too :)

Debbie:

That is fantastic information.  I have stayed at a home that had radiant heat in the bathroom.  No more cold feet.

So, Debbie, I have to ask this - my brother, who used to be a flooring guy in Florida, stated that tile flooring actually has a cooling factor of about 2% in our southern hot climates.  Would that be true in your area?  Would tile flooring be less warming than hardwood or carpet?

I know this sounds crazy, but I once had a tiled living room that was miserable in the winter. Can you do it in livingrooms as well?

Deb - Yes, indeed it is.

Myrl - Yes, they feel so nice on your feet.

Kathy - I wish I had them, too.

Michael - that is so cool.

Richie - Yes, it is.

Juli - Sort of...tile feels much colder that wood or carpet as it conducts heat from your feet.  Technically, it's not colder, but it feels much colder (and more than 2%).
