I am a domain collector; I guess... at least that is what my wife calls me. Last year, right about this time, I was in one of my moods and was just thinking of possible domain names and one of the names that popped in my head and registered was RoadtotheWhiteHouse2012.com
I tried to offer it to both campaigns, but I don't think they ever saw my email. I didn't want money, what I wanted was greater. I told them I would hand the domain over for Dinner for Nine (we have 7 children) at the White House and a one night stay in the Lincoln Bedroom. I never heard back, so I sat on it. With 40 days left until Election Day, it hit me... I better do something with this domain or it would give my lovely wife more ammo to fire at me while playing on Godaddy.com
So while chewing on it, I figured the 1st thing I needed to do was build a website. Shortly thereafter, I jumped on craigslist and found a great a designer who responded back to me immediately at 2:50 a.m. We both worked on it for 16 hrs straight. Actually, he did it all, he just would Skype me throughout the morning and the rest of that day with progress and questions. After that marathon worksession, the framework and most of what we wanted was in place. With just a few more hours of work, it was complete. Now the idea behind the site was to have the two sides get together after the debates and discus what was said, who won, who lost and why... pretty simple. The hard part was going to be in finding two worthy Gladiators... one from the left and one from the right.
For the left, I decided to choose an old friend from high school that I reconnected with through facebook and subsequently sold him a home to facilitate his move back to California and to a new teaching position at a local University. Andrew Cirmer is an Assistant Teaching Professor with Degrees in Political Science, Law and Philosophy with an emphasis on Marxism and Communist Theory. Andrew is a great guy who is passionate about his beliefs and he wears his heart on his sleeve.
The Senator, The Professor and The Domain Collector
Now to fill the Right side of the equation, I was thinking maybe I'd contact a local Young Republicans group and see if they had someone they could recommend that might be up for the challenge. Then I started to think of what politicians I knew personally. Starting from the bottom: Republican Central Committee? Nah, that's been too long ago and I probably don't know anybody there. City Council? Nah. Senators or Congr... Ray Haynes... I have to call Senator Ray Haynes and see if he wants to have a little fun over the next four weeks. I sent Ray an email explaining that I was looking for a conservative individual to fill the spot on the website, and we were going to break down and analyze the debates through the election and probably do an Internet radio show along with it. He wrote back asking for a little more detail and immediately after I wrote him back, he responded with "Ok, I'll do it. Then and there I knew this would be huge. Ray was in the Assembly for six years and the Senate for eight. He was the House Whip (that's right... he was the man) and the Chairman of the Senate Constitutional Committee. Ray is currently practicing law and is a National Spokesman for the National Popular Vote Initiative.
After bringing on these two gents with such outstanding resumes, I decided to go big and call the biggest AM Radio Station in the Inland Empire, 590AM KTIE. Within minutes, a deal was struck to be on the air Sundays at 11:00 a.m. through the election. After the election, depending how the first four weeks go, and if everybody is still agreeable, we will continue this project with a slight change of direction. If we decide to shut down after the election and moth ball it for 3 1/2 years, we will fire up T.B.G. Real Estate Radio and ride that puppy off into the sunset.
The moral of the story is…
TUNE IN TO...
Sunday Mornings at 11:00 a.m.
