Long Live Kitty Kat - Small Towns Too

By

A couple weeks ago an article appeared in the Oregonian which told the story of a man and his cat. The true tale paints a picture of a small town character with plenty of money and even more attitude, a man called John Bass. Kitty Kat, his favored pet, was awarded a life of luxury and a $70,000 fund to keep it so. The cat lived on and on to be 19 years old. John’s will called for any remaining money to be given to the city of Tangent.

Kitty Kat came to be a fixture at city hall, featuring poor toileting habits at key times of political discussion and being stepped on by local policy makers due to her deafness. John’s barn, beloved by the community, has been turned into a town gathering place, which locals felt he would have wanted. To give you an idea of the attitude of this man, imagine him at a small bar where he is refused another drink. His response, “well, I’ll buy the place then.”

We all leave our mark.

Small towns have a way of tolerating/honoring that in ways that are pretty sweet. You can read the whole story online, but this quick synopsis was intended to tip our hat to the small town people we love helping buy and sell homes. It mean a lot to be trusted by the savvy, small town client. They have a way of seeing things as they are, not as they ought to be.
