Gee Mike... What Happened to Your First 20 Comments?

We’re all entitled to a “duh” moment and I suppose I had mine tonight.scratching head   So bear with me if you’ve already noticed this feature at ActiveRain.

Tonight I was commenting on Mike Cooper’s very well deserved Feature post “Can You Time Your Blog for Maximum Readership?”   Excellent post by the way.

Anyway, as I always do, I scrolled down to see the comments (if you don’t know.. the comments are often as interesting as the post), when I noticed that the first 20 comments were missing.

“Gee... why would Mike delete the first 20 comments?”

(yes... I know...quite the “duh” comment.)

I moved on to another post, saw the same thing and then  the old light bulb went off.

We must have a new (well new from my perspective) AR feature.

Take a look: Where did the first 25 comments go?

new feature?

Now look:

So should the comments begin to add up, you can choose to view just the most recent ones or all of them.  I suppose this helps with respect to loading the post because as you may have discovered, often when there are 50+ comments and/or videos the page can be slow to load.

I apologize if you’re thinking..ok Kathy, tell me something I don’t already know, but just in case you don’t here it is.  Do with it what you will!

Hi Kathy, I was in that first 20 to comments on Mike's post yesterday, and when I went back to look for his response, I didn't see it at first. Naturally, I thought the same thing. Why would Mike delete my comment. That's when I discovered this new feature by the staff at AR. Glad you took the time to explain it to the AR community.

I noticed that the other day when things didn't look right.  I never had problems downloading a post with a lot of comments so this will be an extra step for me.  Also, with most boards you get to immediately see the 1st comments first, so this new set-up is a bit strange IMO.

Anja-totally agree...comments can be very interesting.

Andrew- it really helps when there are posts with more than 100 comments.

Wallace- I'm still getting used to it.

Gabe- even though I know about the feature, I still get caught wondering where the comments are.

Maria- you just never know what you'll find here.

Mary Beth- Glad I could help!

Hey Christine!- good to see you!

Sarah- sometimes I do run out of things to say on a popular post but their can be interesting comments.

Rob- and when you add videos, they can really be slow.

Rodney- my post today had maybe 10 comments so who'd notice.

Cynthia- I bet you were!...just didn't run into any posts with a lot of comments.

I noticed this today too, I like to skim most of the comments though, so I would most often click 'Show All'. I'll have to check out Mike's post too.  Thanks

I noticed it today too then I remembered that AR posted an announcement about this new feature.  I think it's making it more organized especially if there are more than 50 comments.  Anyway, there's the "Show All" button if we like to see all the comments.

I must have been absent when AR held the class on this new " feature"? I think most of my blogs get under 25 comments, some get around 50, and I think maybe one got close to 100?
