Happy mid-October! You know what that means…Halloween is right around the corner. While we are seeing decorations and paraphernalia popping up around town, we can also use the upcoming holiday to boost our social media efforts. Every day we spend too much time looking for the perfect things to post on Facebook and Twitter – when it reality, it doesn’t need to be that hard. The simplest of ideas can sometimes spark the most interaction. Give it a try with these Halloween ideas and see for yourself!

Costume Contest: As real estate virtual assistants, we know all the great ways in which you can boost your Facebook interaction. One thing that we suggest and implement for many of our clients is running a Facebook contest. The contest can come with a prize (like a gift card, CMA or cash) or you can offer some sort of perk, such as making the winner your page's profile picture for the week. While we’re in the Halloween spirit, an obvious but fun contest to try is none other than a costume contest! Ask your followers to post a picture of them in their costume (past or present) and you will announce the winner on November 1st.

Note: If you’re not ready to go for a full-blown contest, simply ask your fans what their favorite costume of all time was, or what they plan on dressing up as. These simple questions will promote more interaction than you might think.

Pumpkin Contest: This one is fun and is a sure way to get your Facebook community involved in your page. Just like running a costume contest, follow-suit with a pumpkin carving contest! If you are anything like me, pumpkin carving is one of the coolest things ever and you would do it all year if you could. Pumpkin carving season is well underway and now is great time to promote this contest! Ask your fans to post a picture of their jack-o-lantern masterpiece on your wall and reward the winner(s) by making them your Facebook profile picture. OR, go the extra mile and reward them with a gift card!

Favorite Candy: This is easy. No contest, just a plain and simple question. Ask your fans what their favorite Halloween candy is, or what they would want thrown in their pillowcases if they were a trick-or-treater. You can even turn this into a poll and give them a short list to choose from, based on your favorites.

Horror Stories: Have you ever come into contact with a ghost? Have you experienced paranormal activity? Share a short story (2-3 sentences) of a time you were spooked and ask your fans to share those in return. This is a great way to connect with your followers on a personal level, and really get a conversation started. Additionally, since you are in real estate, a story about a particular house you lived in or sold might be a nice twist.

I hope this post got you thinking of fun ways you can interact with your Facebook fans! A holiday or upcoming local events are great ways to get a conversation started. For more information on how you can boost your online presence, feel free to contact your real estate virtual assistant.
