The St. Joseph river winds its way through Niles, Michigan along the path to it's final destination of Lake Michigan. One of the best things about downtown Niles by far is Riverfront Park located right along the east bank of the St. Joseph river from Wayne to Front Street.
Right at the corner fo Front and Main streets stands the heart of Riverfront Park. The amphitheater is located here and through the summer months free concerts are held for people to enjoy. During theBluegrass Festival in June the amphitheater is alive with the sound of bluegrass music as all the musicians play throughout the weekend.
Riverfront Park in Niles is about more than just music. There are places to launch a boat into the river, family BBQ areas, walking trails and fishing piers. The summer also brings an outdoor movie night with a huge screen Bring your blanket or lawn chair and watch classic movies under the stars. Everything is kid friendly and Riverfront Park also has large playgrounds full of things for kids to play on. Use one of the picnic shelters or areas to grill a great meal with your family and enjoy the scenery of the river as you eat. There are no entrance fees to the park and all the city of Niles asks is that you clean up after yourself.
Stroll by the river and stop to watch people go by in one of the many double swings. There is always something going on at Riverfront Park in Niles which makes it a wonderful part of downtown Niles. Two of the best times of the year at the park are spring and summer when people enjoy coming out after the cold winter months. It is wonderful to see the park bustling with activity as people enjoy all Riverfront Park and Niles has to offer.
Because Riverfront Park is downtown, it is easy for people to take their lunch hour in the park and you will often see people who run local businesses out for some fresh air. Whether you attend the free events at the park or just go to enjoy being outside, Riverfront Park is a wonderful venue to meet wonderful people from the Niles community.
