Along with New Year resolutions it is also great time to review general safety rules to keep our families safe.
If you use portable heaters make sure the heater is at least three feet from any flammable objects.
Extension cords are meant for tempory use. Extension cords should not be tacked to the walls or placed under rugs, or through doorways.
Cooking should not be left unattended, a good reminder that something is still cooking, is to take a timer with you when you leave the room.
Clean ovens and stove tops of the spills and splattered grease.
Keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen that is in easy reach.
When cooking keep the lid for the pot you are using close at hand . Placing the lid on the pot it is a good way to stop an early fire.
Keep matches and lighters away from inquisitive children
Keep lite candles out of reach in none tip candle holders. Extinguish candles before leaving a room.
Check smoke alarms to make sure they are working properly.
Have a family talk and have a plan of action to exit in case of fire
