After reading the blog, If You do NOT remove the politcial signs, we are NOT seeing your home, along with the comments, I have to ask the question, "Is your political contribution costing you the sale of your house?"
Two weeks ago I wrote, 3 Tribes you may belong to that can kill a real estate deal, that discusses this exact thing. Basic psychology shows that people will judge others based on their own opinions. In today's political climate, being on the OTHER tribe will most likely kill any possibility of a deal. It also isn't just the seller's home they will use to make this judgement. Imagine, if you will for a moment that you are looking at a home and the neighbors have signs opposite of your belief. How do you personally feel about Obama or Romney? How do you feel about the other side?
Yesterday I read a political blog right here on AR that ended with,"The choice is very clear to the informed and caring." I can tell you, having the opposite political opinion as this person, my gut reaction, and comment back was, "I hope you don't have any XYZ customers... my what you must think about them. I guess they are dumb and uncaring?"
Now, let me get a little more controversial for a moment. The comments of the original blog, had the majority of agents scratching their heads and saying that this shouldn't make a difference. The original blogger, concerned about first amendment rights of their customer wondered if it was indeed the other agent, not the buyer, that had the issue with political signs in the yard. For a moment, let me ask you... If you were selling your home, and your agent told you that the sign in your yard, advertising your political views, was costing you the sale of your home, what would you really think about it?
What if you found out that your agent knew that it could be costing you the sale of your home and didn't tell you about it?
If this conversation is one that makes you uncomfortable to have, or you know will upset your customer, I would advise hiring a home staging professional to do it for you.
