Housing Market Improving in "Sand States"

The Sand States being California, Nevada, Arizona & Florida....oddly enough, the four states with the highest unemployment rates are showing an increase in Real Estate activity as reported by the FDIC.

According to the FDIC report and above mentioned blog, California home prices have dropped 1.3% from a year ago, but is an improvement from the 2.2% fall in the first quarter of this year.

California's unemployment rate is at an astounding 10.8%, however single-family building permits have increased 9.8% in the second quarter.  Multi-family permits rose 12.8%.

sand state? florida? had not heard that at all and have lived here since 2004.. where did you hear of this?

Yep!  I've heard all four, California, Florida, Arizona and Nevada referred to as "sand states."  This blog came from an FDIC report that used the term. Here's a link to a different article that also refers to them as "sand states."  Beaches and desert make up a large percentage of all four, so there you go!
