Getting ready to move to a new Glenview home? You might be interested to know that although this seems like a pretty stressful undertaking, it ranks only as the 28th out of 40 most stressful life events on a scale created to measure the impact of such things on our lives.
Even so, there are ways that you can make it seem less stressful. Try some of these and see if they help.
1. Create a Support Team. Your team might consist of your spouse, family, friends, even the guys who will be helping load your items onto their moving van. They can all give you tips on ways to make the move go faster and easier and end up successful.
2. Take Breaks During This Busy Time. You don't go to your regular job and work eight or ten hours without a break do you? Well, when you're packing and getting ready for that big move, you also need a break now and then. So take a deep breath and stop working and instead take the kids to see a movie, take the dog for a walk, read a book, watch some mindless TV, or just take a short nap.
3. Eat Right. Don't get so busy that you forget to eat! And while you're at it, don't live on junk food during this time. If necessary, go out to eat, but don't just eat snack cakes and drink cola all day long. You need good food to keep your energy level up and your stress level down.
4. Take Time to Adjust. Your new life is calling, but you don't want to start it half-sick from stress and overwork. You also don't want to jump into it headfirst without assessing which things are the best ones for you and your family to get involved with. There will probably be lots of opportunities for you and your children to join in with the community at school, church, and job functions, but take your time and get involved a little at a time.
