Is A Turtle on Your Doorstep Lucky or Unlucky? Google Knows

The other day, a little turtle came knocking on my front door. If he were smart, he would have come through the garage since I never open my front door. The only reason I knew he was there was that Shayna the cat was going crazy looking out the sidelight window. She was practically pointing and jumping up and down to warn us of an intruder.

Turtle at the doorI decided not to let him in because I didn’t think he was house-trained, but then I got to wondering whether having a turtle at your front door would be good or bad luck. (It was an idle few minutes).

I Googled this: Turtle at front door-good luck or bad.  That’s all I put in and would you believe it, there was a whole bunch of people who asked that question (darn, I hate it when other people beat me to something). The consensus was that it is good luck. Only one person thought it was bad luck. I’m rooting for the good luck side.

I’m wondering now, How the heck did we live before Google told us everything. I’ll have to Google that one too.

I also noticed I need a new door mat :)

Remember when we used to say "Goodness knows".

We had a turtle on our doorstep once - very odd here in suburban NJ - and our dog let us know right away. We went door to door to our neighbors, thinking that one of them had a pet turtle that had gotten loose, becasue we had no other explanation for it, not living near any sort of appropriate turtle habitat.

Toni, that would be so cool to open the door and see a turtle!    Have not seen one in YEARS, last time at the zoo.     Thanks for sharing the good luck it brings, and will remember that!

Shayna knows!  Before Google people looked for signs from nature, animals, clouds, leaves, waves.  My mother had a wealth of sayings/predictions.  Wish I could remember more of them. *Leaves turning upward means nasty storm is emminent.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Toni- I love this!  So, is the turtle gone?  And as for Google... I love it and there is not a day that goes by that I do not "Google" something.

Good morning Toni. Had it been a snapper knocking on my door it would have been great luck for me. Not so much for the turtle as he would be dinner. Turtle soup is delicious. lol

How neat to have a turtle come door knocking or door sitting anyway.  It's a healthy looking critter.  A couple of months back as I was going out the door I almost stepped on one that came from the woods to visit.  I'm so glad it caught my eye before I let my foot take that step!  Yes, I agree that I don't know how we existed before Google!  Encyclopedia's?  Have a great weekend.

Toni,

What we did before Google is made up our own answers, now we read what has been made up.  I definitely think it is good luck, when I think the time it took to make it to your front door.  Like you, we rarely use the front door, except when we have guests arriving...LOL A

Hi Toni.  What did we do without the internet to answer life's persistent questions??  It used to be really hard to find out where a quote came from, for example, or a random date or fact.  I think "Goodness knows" is a way to say "God knows" without breaking a Commandment.

This is a most excellent turtle shot. He anticipated being seen online clearly by placing himself in the corner of an artistic mat for perfect composition. You should have let him in. He obviously is a smart turtle and could have added to your life in a meaningful way.

Hi Everyone, thank you for all the great turtle comments. Can you believe that I sat here and answered all your comments individually and when I reach Steve's #16, I lost the whole thing. ActiveRain shot me back to My Home. I don't have time to redo them but I will catch up with you later.
