Autumn in Seattle
Great photographs from Renton and Kent where we sell most of our homes to downtown Seattle and back. Autumn is indeed here, since it dumped rain this morning. Thanks for sharing this Rene. Nice shots.
I’m headed downtown Thursday morning for a sales meeting. The weather’s turned, it’s autumn no doubt, yet this morning is beautiful and I’m hoping for some good photo opportunities. Traffic is heavy, but I’m enjoying the ride now that I don’t have to commute everyday.
Down Denny Way over Interstate 5 to my right is the South Lake Union neighborhood and I’m headed for our main office to my left in the Denny Triangle which is also the location of my alma mater Cornish School of the Arts.
After the meeting I’m taking Stewart Street to the downtown retail core. This is McGraw Square at 5th Avenue, which is a little ironic because its where two parts of town converge and several blocks are more triangles than squares.
Left onto 2nd Avenue, I love this drive. It’s a little like a canyon but I love the views of the old Smith Tower, once the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. You can see it now dwarfed towards the end of buildings on the left.
I’m avoiding the freeway this morning (just cuz) and head up Cherry Street to First Hill. This was one of the oldest residential neighborhoods of early Seattle. There’s still a few beautiful mansions from those days long ago but now it’s apartments and condos and mostly medical clinics of all kinds in close proximity to the regions major hospitals like Virginia Mason, Swedish Hospital, and Harborview.
At Terry Avenue and the wonderful tree lined Marion Street with St. James Cathedral to my left. First Hill is also home to the Frye Art Museum and O’Dea High School is behind me.
My little jaunt through town is about over as Terry Avenue takes me to Madison Street. I wasn’t expecting this one last photo opportunity before I headed over the hill for the the back way to the south end and my office in Kent.
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to stop today. But I enjoyed the shots I did get from my truck with an iPhone 4s.
