What I Learned This Week in Active Rain-October 14 to October 20, 2012

I Learn Something New at ActiveRain Every Day and It's Time I Showed You.  October 14th  to October 20, 2012.

I learn something new every day at ActiveRain!  With this series I try to highlight one post per day that gave me that “lightbulb” moment.  It could be something techie, about Real Estate, about a place or person!

frank and sharon altersOctober 14   Frank & Sharon Alters    So Where is Your Online Life Off To?
We talk about the clouds an cyberspace... how once we push “send” it stays out there forever.  Ok.. so just where is it?  Read on to find out how to track what you’re putting out!

John McCormackOctober 15:  John McCormack   Tale of a Non-Winterized Evaporative Cooler.
I had no idea what an Evaporative Cooler was but if you have one in your house , I’d make sure you get it winterized!

cheryl ritchieCheryl Ritchie  Join Me on Join.me for Real Estate Screen Sharing Sessions.
If you don’t know Cheryl Ritchie, she loves gadgets more than I do.  Cheryl not only did research on this but also gathered some bloggers to test Skype to see if that would work.

nancy hankinOctober 16:   Nancy Hankin   Email, Hacked and Other Interesting Frauds. Things You Need to Know Now.
I don’t know of anyone who hasn’t had their email hacked.  I’ve read lately that cyber attacks are on the rise.  Read Nancy’s post for interesting information on how you can protect yourself.

Roy KelleyRoy Kelley    Make a Wish
When’s the last time you made a wish on a dandelion?   Too long!  Read Roy’s post for a refresher course on how to Make a Wish!

maria racelisOctober 17:  Maria Gilda Racelis  You Better Check Your Linked In Profile ASAP!
Raise your hand if you received an email a few months ago that the Linked In system may have been hacked and you needed to change your password.  OK.. now raise your hand if when doing so you reviewed your profile.  Better read Maria’s post!

Laura Cerrano October 18: Laura Cerrano  Commonly Asked Bedroom Feng Shui Questions.
I must confess, I know very little about Feng Shui but I do know enough that I can always ask Laura.  After reading this will anyone be moving their beds around tonight?

Valerie zingerOctober 19:  Valerie Zinger   A Wooden Desk Was Your First Line of Defense.
Ask yourself if you remember diving under your desk.  Can you believe it’s been that long?  This made me stop and think of life then (seriously... protected by a desk?!) and life now with the instant news feeds, etc.

ron & alexandra seigelRon & Alexandra Seigel   The Importance of Updating Your Browsers-What These Birds Know.

I know of a lot of people who do not update their browsers but it never occurred to me that not doing so might make it hard to view some of the information we receive.  Ron & Alexandra give us a way to help ensure your information can be read.

Gail RobinsonOctober 20: Gail Robinson    Photography Groups on ActiveRain- Why Aren’t You Subscribing?
Gail makes a very good point in her post.  If a property may not justify a professional photographer, it still deserves better MLS photos.  She’s listed some photography groups that provide you with tips and information.  Take a look!

Thank you for letting me do what I love to do each day... learn something new!

Conrad- me too.  I don't remember what I thought as a kid ducking under the desk but I probably thought "oh goodie... anything to break the monotony."

James- thank you.  I read John McCormack's and had never heard of an evaporative cooler!  Good thing I don't have a house with one.

Gita- I'm glad you've been busy.  I read Maria's and realized I needed to check my Linked In profile.

Dorie- with all of the wonderful local posts you write, be sure to read Frank & Sharon's post about where our "stuff" is.

Suzanne- very happy to  do that.  I can't remember when the last time I saw a dandelion but I'm going to look for one for I can make a wish like Roy Kelley suggested.

Sharon- I will head to yours!  I'd never thought about readers with outdated browsers not being able to read our posts, so be sure to head to Ron & Alexandra's.

Michael- enjoy your reading.  I don't know if you remember about the drills we had ducking under our desks but it brought back of lot of memories.

Tanya- I loved it as well.  At least I don't have to change the placement of my bed!

Bobbie- don't know if you have any of the evaporating coolers in your area but I hope if you do it's winterized.

Roy- thank you.   I am going to try to find a dandelion.

Richie- thank you!  I don't know if your email has been hacked yet, but mine has.  Be sure to read Nancy Hankin's post.

Maria- thank you!  I hope people are checking out their Linked In profile.  I'd never have thought to do that.

Frank- you're too young to remember ducking under our desks but I also remember people building fall-out shelters.

Mark- it did get kind of long, didn't it!  It's hard to keep it to 7.

Toni- I need to amp up my photog skills.  Kathy Nielsen takes absolutely beautiful pictures of her stagings.

Richard- Enjoy them.  Ron & Alexandra bring up a good point about browsers but they also show you what to include to help your reader's with your blog.

Ron- you've been busy!  That's good.  I may have some miniatures to send you!

Al & Peggy- you can read them while watching football!

Kristin- ok!  You'll love Laura's on Feng Shui!

cool. I like how you broke the list. I was reminded of LinkedIn which I've been meaning to update for the longest time but for some reason, that's the one social media outlet I neglect the most, thanks again!

John(QMan)- you truly gave ma an "aha" moment!  I had never heard of an evaporative cooler!

Gary- glad I could provide some posts you'd missed.  I found out from Gail how to link my photos I place in Pinterest back to me.

Pippa- thank you.  I thought our posts and blogs would be in cyberspace forever so hope you read Frank & Sharon's post.

Dave- Glad to see you.  I'm going to work with Cheryl on Join.me to see if it would help me with my clients. She's tried different apps and is still looking at what's out there.

Michele- I'm going to save Laura's post on Feng Shui questions about the bed and where to place it.  I have clients who are always asking me.

Jeff- good!  Then I'm doing what I set out to do.  Check out Cheryl's post on Join.me.  you can use it to help walk a client through some documentation if you can't meet them in person.

Gary- I love hearing how busy everyone is.  My email's been hacked as has many of my friends'.  Check out Nancy's post.

Paula- you're very welcome.  I loved Roy's post on the dandelion.

Bryan- we're in the same boat.  I subscribe to a lot of people and try to read as many posts as I can but always find I miss a lot.

Chris and Maria- I'm in the same boat you're in.  I love AR, of course, and Pinterest, Google+ and FB but I do need to spend more time on LinkedIn.

Scott- well, I have to review my LinkedIn profile and good grief I have a long list of "to do's".

Jerry- you are a very kind spirit!  Do you remember ducking under your desk when you were a kid?  Valerie's post brought back memories for a lot of us.

Lynn- I know you have a great Pinterest board.  Hope you read Gail's post!

Ron & Alexandra- no apologies necessary.  Your post brings up a point that I think is rarely addressed.  I hope people will see this so that their posts and blogs will be seen. BTW-- 2 things I don't like: a car that won't start and no Internet service!

Tatyana- we have so many wonderful posts being written.  I love Laura's on Feng Shui.

Barbara- thank you so much.  I think we need an AR Meetup that will include you guys up to the north.
