Now the kids will want to listen to their own ipods or watch the DVD in the back of your headrests; however, make them a deal that they only have to listen to the first disk (there are 15 so it must be a LONG trip) and then if they are not interested, they don't have to listen.....they will be hooked.
Rowling writes her characters in the fictional English town of Pagford with the same richness she did her Hogwards and Harry Potter characters; however, she has more challenges with the "real world" aspects of NON-magical characters in this lovely village and the nearby town with it's social and political issues.
As many readers of her Harry P series may know, in her early life, she taught in Portugal, married a local and had a child. The marriage did not last so she returned to Scotland with 3 early Harry chapters in her notebook. She finished the book in a local coffee shop where her child slept by her side. After some preliminary dealings with local literary agents the Harry Potter series was born.
This first NON-Harry effort did not disappoint me as it has much of the "randomness" of Harry's life that eventually has a purpose.
With the death of a parish councilor Barry Fairbrothers, adults and children in the town begin a long journey of self exploration and enlightenment as the fabric of the town is rewoven with revelations.
