My dear friend Ann Fisher took me out for brunch today at The White Horse in Marbledale (Washington) CT. Wow, what a spectacular meal I had!
On her recommendation we both ordered the Lobster Pot Pie with mixed greens. It is on their brunch menu. I have to say it was fantastic. The pot pie comes in its own ramekin, they even put a little horse on the top made of crust, very rustic looking. When I broke open the pie the smell alone was enough to entice me to dig in! There were sweet, succulent chucks of fresh lobster inside in a delightful white sauce. Mouthwatering, really.
Check out the menu for the White Horse here.
(And might I add, if you are going with someone, make sure they don't eat much. Ann eats like a bird, I got to finish her Lobster Pie!)
Of course we topped it off with a Belgium Chocolate Tart with Grand Marnier whipped cream. We did split the desert and there was enough to split. The crust was a chocolate crumb type of crust, the chocolate filling was just perfect, not to sweet and very chocolaty, it was drizzled with a raspberry sauce and served with the whipped cream on the side. WOW!
We sat in the dining room overlooking the Aspetuck River, my view was like a painting of an idyllic New England fall day. With the foliage in full color it was a treat all the way around for each of the senses, sight, smell, taste, we could even hear the river as it flowed on by. Outdoor dining was still available, but we declined as it was just a bit too nippy for our taste. Although they do have heaters for each table, but we were comfortable inside. You can also choose to sit in the pub, with the fireplace roaring it can be something very special.
I highly recommend The White Horse in Marbledale. If you sign up they will send you a newsletter AND if you give them your birthday, you will get an email with a coupon for a free entree as a birthday gift from The White Horse to you! I still have mine, and have to use it this week, so you know I will be going back there very, very soon.
