Nature protects it's own!

This weekend WE spent with the Grand Daughters.  Being close to Halloween and a very nice day we took a Nature walk.

One of the local park/nature areas has a mile long trail.  Stationed along the trail are cartoon characters and other Movie characters that kids like.  Any thing from Snow White to Batman.

AS we walked along this slightly elevated wetland trail I ran across this Woodcock not 5 feet off the trail.

Hundreds of people had filed past this bird and never saw it.  I took several photo's from just 5 feet away.  I then stood up and started walking away when I saw this...

I had not seen the second bird just a foot closer than the first.  I was able to get a few phot's of the two of them and then I left them at peace.

This Nature Preserve is a great wetlands spot and we saw many different animals.  But, you do have to stop and look.

WE need to do this in our lives...Stop and look.  Stop and smell the roses!  You never know what you might see.

You're right...sometimes the journey is just as beautiful as the destination if we only take time to stop and enjoy it

Great pictures. My daughter and I did the same thing on Saturday afternoon at a local park with wooded walking trails. We didn't seen any great wildlife, but the colors were great and we had a nice time.

Bill, it's pretty cool how nature has a way of hiding from us.  I don't think I've seen a Woodcock up close and personal.

Great photo's.  I bet these were hard to see and most people would not have seen them.

These birds hold tight to their cover most every where.  Lucky to have them sit still for your photo op.
