More Bears Are Being Seen In Albuquerque

 

 

For most of us, we hear the stories about the bears and the cubs coming down from the hillsides or forest. Recently, on TV we are hearing more about bears walking through the backyards and knocking the trash cans over and causing a lot of damage and destruction. Plus all the small pets are at risk of being hurt or worse.

 

 

Keep your trash cans put up and covered with locking lids. Most of the bears are looking for food as it has been very dry and there is a shortage. Keep your doors closed as a thin screen door will not keep a huge bear out and lately they have been trying to get into homes.

 

One bear in LA County, now named Meatballs, went inside a home and got meatballs out of the refrigerator and was seen leaving the house carrying the bag and eating them. The homeowner had come home and saw him in her house so luckily she did not go inside. The Sheriff's Dept. and Animal Control tranquilized the bear and tagged him for any future incidents. Well Meatball just could not stay away and after 5 times in that same neighborhood, he was moved to San Diego and is in a shelter waiting to hear where his next destination might be.

 

 

 

 

 

 

If you hear something, probably better to stay inside. If you see a bear nearby, stay inside and call the Police or Sheriff's Department. Be sure to keep your pets inside in the early morning and at night.

 

 

 

If you see a cub, do not approach them as you can bet mother bear is nearby.

 

 

 

If your dog is outside and the bear shows up, call your dog to come in but do not go outside and put yourself in peril.

 

 

These bears are not nice like Yogi Bear was. They can be mean and deadly at times.

 

Warning: If you are confronted with a bear....do not run as the bear can outrun you by about 40 MPH and can climb trees too. Back away slowly, and try not to look him in the eye. If you see a big rock or something larger, grab it and continue to walk away slowly. If the bear charges you, right
