MARTY BALIN TO PLAY IN THE FINAL CONCERT OF THE SERIES
Marty Balin to play in the final concert of this year’s October Concert Series on October 26, 2012
St Pete Beach, FL: Marty met singer/guitarist Paul Kantner and together they formed Jefferson Airplane. Balin's soulful tenor proved a pivotal element of their sound.
In 1971, after departing Jefferson Airplane, Marty produced an album for the Berkeley, California group Grootna. In 1973 Grootna went through some personnel changes. Marty took over lead vocals recording an album with the group under its new name Bodacious D.F.. Marty joined Jefferson Starship permanently in 1975 for the second album Red Octopus featuring the hit "Miracles."
In 1981, he released his first solo album, Balin, featuring two Top 40 hits. "Hearts" and "Atlanta Lady." In 1985 Balin teamed up with Paul Kantner and Jack Casady to form the KBC Band. In 2009 Balin spent the year on and off in the studio with Slick Aguilar recording new songs for the album Blue Highway to be released in the summer of 2010 that came with a rockin’ start with the recording of the 2011 release album, The Witcher.
The 6th annual October concert series presented by Postcard Inn and City of St Pete Beach Recreation is a family friendly event in Horan Park. Horan Park is located adjacent to the St Pete Beach Community Center at 7701 Boca Ciega Dr. On Friday, October 26, opening act Jerry and Steve will take the stage at 6pm and Marty Balin at 8pm. Food, beer, wine and other refreshments are available for purchase and free valet parking is available at the Community Center.
