OK Mr. President – I Will Check the Record
I typically avoid posting political commentary. However, with so much at stake regarding our country’s – and our lives’ – future, I thought that I would break tradition, if only for the next 14 days.
Listening to the debate last night and cruising around and posting on Facebook, it became apparent that the current administration is taking full advantage of the ignorance of the American voter and the bias in the major media outlets.
One case in point is the President’s claim that Romney wouldn’t have allowed government intervention for the failing automobile industry, which Romney refuted. The President told Romney “…that is not what you said…check the record.” Clearly the President did not count on anyone – mainly the mainstream media who are completely in his satchel – to verify this brazen challenge and out him for this outright lie.
So I did.
In the Op Ed piece that Romney wrote on 11/18/2008 titled “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt”, he called for drastic restructuring of the big auto makers which included a managed Bankruptcy. He also said “…the federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing…” That sounds like help from the government to me.
Mr. Obama would have us believe that Romney would not have provided any government aid to the failing companies. This is simply not the case, as noted above. Obama also claims that Romney would have allowed the auto makers to fail. Obviously, Obama is counting on the typical voter to not know the difference between Bankruptcy and failure.
Over the past year or so, Obama has been touting himself as having saved the automobile industry. Apparently, he fails to remember that it was his predecessor, George W. Bush, who approved the bailout of the auto makers. The first checks were written during Bush’s administration. Romney’s Op Ed piece disagreed with the President’s handling of the situation even before Obama took office.
Obama also praises his own efforts in bailing out the automotive industry which provides more jobs here in the United States. That is very interesting to me because the majority of those employed by GM are outside of this country. In fact, only 1/3 of the employees of GM are in the United States. In addition, 7 out of 10 GM cars are manufactured outside of the US.
Way to invest in America, Mr. President.
Of the Big Three auto makers, the Ford Corporation has seen the biggest rise in sales and profits…and it declined government money.
So when someone says that Romney called for Detroit to fail, please educate the unfortunate, misinformed person that calling for Bankruptcy is NOT the same thing as calling for failure.
