The Phoenix Zoo will become home to such spooky Halloween creatures as zombies, witches and vampires. Creep through the Fields of Fear if you dare, or test your luck against the creepy clowns of the Monster Midway. Feeling really brave? Then you might want to try the Maze of the Mind. There will be a DJ and other haunted activities. This event is recommended for ages 8 and older.

More than 5,000 “zombies” are expected to participate in this year’s walk, which also features a beer garden, fortune tellers, make-up artists, food vendors and more after the walk at Heritage & Science Park

On Saturday, Oct. 27, get free parking at CityScape’s two underground garages when you come dressed like a zombie. Visit Lucky Strike for $2 Bud Light drafts and $4 Grateful Dead drinks. Blue Hound Kitchen and Cocktails offers $5 Stumblebum’s Downfall cocktails. At the Un-dead Party at Copper Blues, doors open at 4 p.m. and a band begins at 8:30, and you can get 15 percent off your drink tab if you’re dressed like a zombie. From Oct. 27-31, the Strand Urban Italian offers happy-hour prices from 2 p.m. to close when you mention Halloween happy hour. On Halloween, most CityScape tenants offer giveaways and hand out candy from about 10 a.m. to close. At 7 p.m., Lustre Bar at Hotel Palomar features DJ music, drink specials and a costume contest with the winner announced at 11 p.m. At Copper Blues, registration begins at 8 p.m. for a costume contest in such categories as most original, scariest and sexiest; winners will be announced at 10. Nineball performs live music from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Drink specials include $4 vampire-blood Jell-O shooters.

The state’s largest no-kill animal shelter is celebrating Halloween with free activities, contests, games, prizes, and trick-or-treating. Adoption specials from Oct. 27-31 include: $15 adoption fees for cats older than six months and $50 for kittens; 25 percent off the normal adoption fee for puppies and adult dogs with a free dog costume while supplies last. All animals will be spayed or neutered and microchipped with up-to-date vaccinations.

Day of the Dead celebration honors Hispanic tradition with music, food trucks and activities. A variety of performers will perform, including Aztec Dancers, Las Calaquitas, El Paseo, La Mascarada, Las Coronas, and Metalachi, the world’s first and only heavy-metal mariachi band. Mask-making workshops are held and participants can march in a procession with 8-foot-tall animated puppets. Presented by the CALA Alliance with activities programmed by the Cultural Coalition.

This 26-acre scare park features such haunted attractions as Chainsaw Mayhem, Sector 13, Condemned, Annihilation and Twizted Toy Factory.
