Manhattan is so close to Westchester and so easy to access, I often wonder why more people don't migrate north. From some locations the commute to midtown is easier from Westchester than from points in upper Manhattan. Anyway, it took me about 40 minutes to get to Manhattan this day and I was able to enjoy the city and its sites.
Ruthmarie - Yes, you're right. Many times it's so much easier from Westchester to get there, especially if you live near a metronorth station.
Good morning, Ruthmarie..... communting time is a big factor in selecting a town to live in....we deal with that all the time....my town has the commuter rail to Boston and it's a 45 minute ride.... we're a very desirable location because of that.... sounds like Westchester in relation to Manhattan.... Westchester is the place to live if you want an easy commute to the city.
There are some great locations in Westchester. Taking Metro North is very easy. That picture of the city at sunset is stunning.
Ruthmarie - Worked in midtown and lived at York and 76th. It took me 45 minutes door-to-door in the morning. Going cross-town in Manhattan can take longer than a commute from Westchester.
Wow! I never responded to these posts. Sorry.
Hi Debbie - It always surprises me when friends of mine who live in NYC boast about the convenience and then say they only have a 45 minute commute! Huh??? That's no more convenient from many locations in Westchester and Westchester is soooooo much cheaper. Many city dwellers could be so much more comfortable in Westchester. And from Westchester its so easy - in many locations its just hop on a metro-north train and enjoy the ride. Get work done, sleep, whatever - nothing like the cramped unproductive subway ride which is often done standing.
Hi Barbara - Its not working the way it used to. People are extremely resistant to living in Westchester. I tried to sell a friend of mine from Europe a beautiful condo right by a metro-north station. It would have cost about $700k. She picked Manhattan for $1.4 million...Nearly double the price - overhead ditto. She sighted convenience. I was crushed - I needed the commission for openers - desperately - And quite honestly, Westchester was the better deal. She could have been in Manhattan in 35 minutes.
Hi Grant - But it doesn't seem to be working that well. We are losing the next generation. They are so resistant to moving here. REALLY resistant.
Hi Gail - You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. For whatever reason - I have to admit that Westchester is just not selling the way it was...at least lower Westchester it is a real struggle for hearts and minds. The glamour of the city seems to entice more than the lower prices and more boucolic nature of Westchester.
| Great accompanying photo you have here Ruthmarie. Weschester sure is charming and the perfect place for individuals who are always on the go. Thank you for sharing and stay the most consistent real estate specialist. |
