Leaf Disposal is easy in Clark County, WA

Raking LeavesIt's that time of the year again. The leaves are falling - rain is falling too. It's autumn in the Northwest and you know what to do - start raking.

We need to keep those leaves picked up to avoid any problems with plugged drains and localized street flooding. It's easy to dispose of those soggy leaves too.

The City of Vancouver provides a coupon for free disposol of leaves from October 1st through December 20th. You have the option of three disposal sites.

Residents in Clark County can use West Van Materials Recovery Center on Old Lower River Road, or use H & H Wood or McFarlane's Bark on 117th Ave.

The coupon must be presented at the drop-off site and is for leaves only - up to 5 cubic yards. Yard debris or mixed loads will be charged at the regular price.

raking leavesClark County officials remind us that composting is also a good option. You're encouraged to call the Master/Composter/Recylcing program at 360-882-0936 ext. 224.

If you'd prefer to dispose of leaves another way, curbside collection is also avaialbe through an optional basis. For details check out the curbside collection program.

Hi Debbie, we have so many leaves in our area right now. It is great for people to recycle them and turn them into compost

Hi Debb - With the high winds we often have here, I think most of our leaves wind up somewhere in Kansas.

Dick, that's when it's not necessarily an "ill-wind" a blowing. ;)

Good seasonal information for residents.  In Maryland, we have been asked to move leaves from gutters to grassy areas in order to keep drains fully open for the incoming storm.  Fortunately, Gaithersburg does provide regular leaf pick ups.

Have an outstanding weekend.

Debb - it's great that Clark County WA provides a free way for homeowners to dispose of their leaves because that's half the battle. In our town we blow them all to the sidewalk and the town comes and picks them up. This is great except when you get a wind storm and they blow everywhere. We have so many 100 year old Maple trees in our yard we hire a landscaper who hauls  them away. If we didn't we'd have a wall of leaves over 10 feet tall, lol.

Debb, great timing for this post, as leaves can really clog up the drains!   Great options when disposing of these leaves.

Debb,

It is wonderful that Clark County has a great leaf pick up.  Your post reminded me of raking leaves in Minnesota, and my father used them as compost in his vegetable patch.  A

Debb, I just heard about a contest for leaf photos...do you have any?  Just kidding, missy. Not about the first part. I heard about it on the radio, but I don't think I have any spectacular ones. Blade of grass with dew maybe....

I'm ready to skip winter and go back to spring/summer...but I'll bet you could do a fun recycling leaves video--maybe Mac can run through a pile of them!

Leaf Disposal made easy is always a good perk.  For now oddly our three trees are still green and the Bosque Cottonwoods are still wearing their golden attire.  Great localism my friend.

Debb, Good advice for residents of Vancouver, WA and other communities with leaf collection.  Since I live in country we compost some leaves and blow the rest into the woods or over the bank behind our house.  It is raining today so the leaves are coming down with the rain.  Have good weekend.

I wish we had more of these days here in California Debb. Some areas have a weekly "green pickup day" but most do not.

Dorie, thanks and good to see you. I think it's a good program too.

Glad you think so Roger. :)

Joan, yep localized flooding can be a big headache.

Alexandra - I keep forgetting you grew up in the mid-west.

I love your blade of grass with dew. Not sure I'll get out a leaf video this year. Good to see you Spirit Twin.
