Trick or Trunk, a Safe Way to spend Halloween

Friday night we attended a Trick or Trunk Halloween event with our youngest Grandson, Raphael. This was an interesting event and was just like Halloween at the speed of light.

Cars assembled on the town Center in Colchester, trunks were opened, decorated and like a horse race, at 6 PM promptly, it was Go.

The kids came around to the cars, gave their ‘Trick or Treat’ cry and opened up their bags. No door ringing, no stopping to chat, just grab the candy and slide next door. For an hour, we passed out candy, over 500 pieces, and the kids still came.

There was music to fill the night air. I can’t even begin to count the number of times I heard ‘Monster Mash’ and ‘Thriller”. Prizes were given out for best decorated trunk and also for best carved pumpkin. But at the end of the night, everyone had a great time, and the kids had full bags.

Here in Prospect CT, the Trick or Trunk event has been postponed due to the coming storm. It’s sure to be a great time as well.

Hi Ed, this is some event. I have never seen anything like this and it makes so much sense and I would bet the kids loved it.

Ed, in my neighborhood, the neighbor kids come and go by about six o'clock.  Then the trick or treaters get exponentially older asking for candy for their "children".  This sounds like a much better way.

John, Raphael was a bit overwhelmed with so much activity, but loved getting the candy

William, it is a bunch easier and safer than having the kids go door to door, but they loved getting all their bags filled

Pat, the parents were there as well getting candy for their sick kids that couldn't come

This is gaining popularity all over the nation. It seems the door to door routine is becoming a thing of the past............says something about our society and it isn't good.

Ed, I LOVE Halloween just to see the kids joy and hear their laughter.  We haven't had any kids at our house for the last few years.  I've been hearing more and more about trick or trunk and will have to look into this.  It's so much fun.

very cool Ed....i'm not sure why they did not plan ahead here since most roads are being closed down along the water this afternoon...the kids will probably miss Halloween here...friends have been evacuated from Narragansett already due to flood zone...we await Sandy

Ed, This is a new way of handling Halloween for me. It does sound safer, no kids in costumes on dark streets. Who can argue against this?
