Selective Focus - Which One Do You Like Best?

Last Friday, I had some time to experiement more with my camera. As most know, I love taking the shallow depth-of-field pictures. The home, pictured below, was staged for an Atlanta real estate investor whom we've had the distinct pleasure of staging their last 10 homes. But, I digress.

In this first image, you'll see that the background is in focus and the foreground is blurry. In the second image, the background is blurry and the foreground is in focus.

I think I like the second one better.  Which one do you like?

Awesome Pictures! I'm wishing for a DSLR maybe after the first of the year. Taking condo pictures with a small camera is tough. I need a wide angle to capture the inside for sure!

Long time no see my friend!

Hi, Thom. I thought I had saved this to my draft and see that I made it public.  Silly me.  I just purchased a wide angle lens for those difficult rooms (i.e., bathrooms). So far, I'm loving it. However, I really need to practice.

We need to hook up for coffee. Let's plan on doing that sometime soon.

Kathy - I agree with you; I like the second photo best.  It has a very dreamy quality about it.  Although, I have to say that both shots are amazing.

Kathy - first, I always admire your closeup shots - they look great and you can really see the details of your staging that get lost in large MLS photos. While both photos look great I definitely chose the first one because I like the way the flowers are blurred, but you can see most of the photo on the whole (pretty pillows on the sofa and art). That's my 2 cents for what it's worth, lol.

Kathy, for photo quality, I like the second better because the flowers are so crisp and contrast so well with the warm and cool colors in the background. But for marketing your staging, I would pick the first one because it highlights the furniture. And both are really great shots!! How wide is your wide angle?

Kathy~ I have to vote for the first photo.  Especially for a home for sale.  I want the buyer to envision the WHOLE room.

Hi Kathy, Use them both. The first one would be great to demonstrate your work, the last one might be used in an ad where it is not property specific. Both excellent!
