Scary Real Estate Story - The Seller's Missing Husband

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc MD 82788

I'm always reminded of this story around Halloween!  This scary story about a Silver Spring house comes from a former Real Estate Office Manager of mine.  One of her agents had written an offer on a Large Colonial Home on Highland Drive in Woodside Park.

The listing agent  and the title attorney were working frantically to iron out some title issues with this house.  It seems that the woman selling this house still owned the house by tenants in the entirety with her husband, Jack.   But Jack had left his wife many many years before and his wherabouts has been unknown for 20 years.   The title company could not locate him to have him sign off on the deed and the sale of the house.   The title company had been working for months to resolve this issue.

After months of work the title issue was finally resolved! - The Buyers were excitedly inspecting the house on their final walkthru before settlement.  Upon inspection of the attic the buyers and their agent discovered Jack, the missing husband, his mummified remains were hanging from a rafter in the attic.   Mystery Solved.

That is crazy. . . definitely a hallowed experience.  It was a fun story. . . but I bet not for the Buyers!  Thanks for sharing.

Debbie -- Oh My!   So what's the rest of the story?   Police investigation - trial - did the buyers continue with the sale?  Inquiring minds want to know....

Michael,

This was a long time ago - but my manager told me the buyer's did go thru with the sale and the title people were relieved that they could declare the husband dead (it cleared up the title problems real quick). It was ruled a suicide.

Creepy!  I can see why you think of this around Halloween time, but I'd probably think about it any time I showed property in the neighborhood.
