Unless you live in a cave, and that may not be a bad idea right now, you’re hearing about the monster sized storm projected to hit the East Coast later today. Here in the mid-Atlantic States we have our storms like everyone else, but we don’t usually get them with this intensity, and almost never at this time of year.
I can’t recall seeing the level of preparation that’s been going on, at least in Maryland. The government knows something, and they’re trying the best they can to let us all know.
Federal, State and Local government offices are shut down, and all we have right now is a little bit of rain. Something more than that is certainly on its way since a State of Emergency has already been declared. Public transportation is also shut down. No buses or trains for who knows how long. Trash pick-up...store it until this is over. The National Guard is deployed.
The staples are in...batteries, candles, bread, milk and TP. The dog’s reminded me today that we’re running low on dog food...one more trip to the store this morning. We’re ready, and all we can do is wait.
Things can always be repaired or replaced, not always so with life and limb. Don’t do anything stupid out there when Sandy finally materializes later today.
I understand it has strengthened. While the surf and wind can be awe inspiring-the danger is real. I hope people are well-prepared, use common sense and take care of each other until this is over.
Sounds like Sandy is a monster of a storm, Richard. I hope you stay safe, warm and dry!
Noticed the rain picking up in my area. Not as much wind as I thought would be here but the weather guessers seem to think they are coming a bit later. I'll head out to check the river a little later to see how the docks are doing.
Here in Chesapeake we have just had a lot of rain. High tide comes in an hour and a half and that is when the flooding will be an issue. Stay safe up there!
Richard,
As many times as the weather people seem to miss the mark, this one has unfolded just as they have said.....and I hope all those in the way of Sandy made preparations.
Be safe out there today Richard. Sounds like you've prepared yourself as well as you can, hopefully doesn't do much damage
We are battening down the hatches here in Connecticut, good luck everyone, be safe.
We're starting to see wind and rain picking up here in central NJ, but I'm getting my blogs read before we lose elecricity :) Stay safe, Richard.
Richard - having been through a few hurricanes, I wish you most of all to be safe. Sandy is a monster.
I sure hope everybody stays safe out there Richard. It looks like a very scary storm.
GOOD MORNING RICH! I feel so bad that so many people are bracing themselves for this and here in Tucson, well we are still hot, dry and ...hot. But being a native of Hawaii I know what hurricanes can do and what it takes to prepare for safety - and think about everyone back east - hope you are buckled in!
Rich, just checking to see how you fared during hurricane. Did you lose power?
Rich ~ I hope you & yours made it through the storm safe & sound. Like you said, people can't be replaced, material things can.
