A little update

UPDATED UPDATE: I drove up to my house this morning, another tree fell to the back of the house. Amazing that this one just brushed the house, branches are up against the house but no damage at all. As with the others up on the hill, I have no power. We are safe and sound, we all appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Some didn't fare as well, I know our own Sheldon Neal has a tree that did damage to his house but they are safe. I know Donna Bidga had to evacuate, and I fear flooding over in that neck of the woods. And our New York and New Jersey friends, who knows yet. I am sorry for all the loss, and pray that you are all doing well. This was the scariest thing I have been through in a long, long time. Thank you everyone!

We were all hunkered down, ready for what was to come. I had hard boiled eggs, boiled taters, bread, more peanut butter and jelly than we could eat in a month, enough bread, chips, water, juice boxes, flashlights, batteries, candles, you get the point.

And then it happened. A large pine tree next to the house came down. It cracked at the base and landed on the peak of the house. It sat there for about 10 minutes, then it rolled off into the front yard.

The damage was minimal, I was amazed. We didn't lose power, it didn't break the roof, it did cause a few shingles to pucker up a bit. But on the whole, it was pretty amazing.

But.... the wind was howling, the tree limbs were blowing off and all over the yard. The remaining pine trees were making horrible noises as they swayed and bent in the relentless winds.

We gave up and left. I hope when I return no more trees came down. A friend told me an angel was watching over us and she just might be right.

I know so many people had to leave their homes, the tides are rising, the danger is very real and very scary. To all that are facing this horrible storm I hope you are safe. We can replace our homes, but we cannot replace ourselves. It is not a good feeling, but it will pass.

Good to hear that you are okay as well as the others you shared. Belongings can be replaced. I personally could not fathom living through the storm portrayed on the news. Hang-in there; you're doing great.

A little shingle damage is a pretty good deal out of a tree falling on the roof. Glad it wasn't worse.

Andrea,

That big pine tree touch you in a different way - didn't it? Was it an accident or a wake-up call. I think no matter where we were, in the path of Sandy or not, it was a wake-up call. There's something more powerful than Democrats or Republicans, isn't there?

I'm glad your safe and your house had minimal damage. Congratulations on the FEATURE. I'm wishing you and all the people directly impacted by Sandy strength, courage and prosperity.

Thank you for keeping us posted.  It is such a blessing that you still have a home.  Watching the news really makes you realize how grateful we are.  Our lights only flickered, and that's it.  It will be a long road to recovery for many.

Thx for the update.  Yesterday was weird driving around.  So many trees down and in the wires.  A bit scary.  Thx for the update on those Rainers and I hope they are okay.  I know Kristine Ginsberg is still without power, but she is okay.

Andrea-So glad to hear you and your family are safe and there was minimal damage to the house. Thank you for mentioning Sheldon being OK. I watched a 20/20 special last night and there was certainly lots of different kinds of damage. Fire, snow and rain. That is wild. Be safe and my prayers are with you

As a side note, I am thinking about leaving the tree out front and decorating it for Christmas.... because the back yard alone will take months to clean up!

Might as well go with the flow.....
