Realtor and oh the other Job description - counselor/therapist

By
Real Estate Agent with Exit Realty Professionals

It is a curious position to be in. I find that being a counselor/therapist works into the unwritten job description of a Realtors day to day life. When your client looks at you with disappointment after you've done your best to get them approved for a home, or the home that they were so excited about that it kept them up at night slips away to another buyer, or their home takes a year to sell when they wanted it sold in a month, these are all the times when I find myself shifting gears to help them to understand why this has happened and what their options are. It sounds simpler than it is sometimes. This is a great business because it's about people, but it can be a hard business because it is about people. With every mark not met is some emotional baggage that comes with it.

Marc, excellent post. Real-estate tends to be a frustrating venture for many. Therefore the many hats an agent wears these days are becoming more and more.

Marck - congrats on your first blog!  Welcome to the Rain!  I can't wait to read more from you, I miss seeing you and the other guys every week.  Anyways, it can be hard sometimes letting people down but it can also be very rewarding when you you get to see them move into their home.  I will take the bad because the good is well worth it!  Keep up the great work!

Marc, you are dead on the money, bu tyou should try 10 yearsof law enforcement.  At least as Realtors most of our "counseling" is on a positive note.

Well said! I often wonder what other job postions I would qualify for after 8 years as a Realtor/therapist/handyman/marraige counselor/pet sitter/locksmith/etc/etc
