So we have gone over talking about thinking about what you can afford and getting a pre-approval letter....what's next. It's time to put down on paper and think about what you really want in a house and where you want to live. If you want to drive a realtor crazy be flaky on what you want and where you want to live.
You'll drive the realtor crazy and yourself too. You both will get frustrated and then it will become an unhappy experience. So sit down and write down what you want in a house. Share that with the realtor you pick. You absolutely need to share your wants and desires with your realtor. Where do you want to live, how much you want to spend, what are the important features you want. If your realtor knows what you want they can help you find what you want.
Sometimes I have had clients wanting homes that they are never going to find in the price range they could afford. That is a hard talk to have, but again it saves buyers and sellers from an unhappy experience. You may not be able to afford that house in Plymouth but in Canton you can. That is where your realtor's experience comes in handy.
So write down that you want an open layout colonial home with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, garage, and basement under $250,000 in Canton, Plymouth. List out other important things like if you want a fenced yard or a pool. Getting organized and knowing what you want will make your first time home buying process go smoother. You will be happy that you did. Happy house hunting!
