State of Emergency Lifted in Gaithersburg

Effective at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, the Acting City Manager has lifted the state of emergency for the City of Gaithersburg. The City will be open for business as usual on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. All facilities will be open, and programs and activities will take place as originally scheduled. City employees should report per their normal work schedule.

Recycling pickup will resume on a normal schedule beginning Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Leaf pick up is also currently underway, with pick ups scheduled on your normal recycling day. Leaf pick up will continue through the last week in December. Large tree limbs and other yard waste will be collected per the City's bulk pick-up schedule, generally on a neighborhood's first recycling day of the month. For more information visit www.gaithersburgmd.gov/recycling or call the Department of Public Works at 301-258-6370.

Residents should report any power outages directly to their local power company. For PEPCO, call 1-877-737-2662 or go to the PEPCO website www.pepco.com. For Baltimore Gas and Electric, call 1-877-778-2222 or go to the BG&E website www.bge.com. For Allegheny Power, call 1-800-255-3443 or go to the Allegheny Power website www.alleghenypower.com.

Gaithersburg residents should call 301-258-6370 to report trees down on City roadways and public property. That phone number is manned until 4 p.m. After that it is monitored for messages by City Public Works staff. If live wires are involved, the tree is blocking a roadway, the tree is on a structure or if anyone is trapped under a fallen tree, call 9-1-1. For downed trees on public property outside the City, Montgomery County residents should call 3-1-1 or 240-777-0311 from outside the county or from a cell phone, or file a report at www.MC311.com.

The City extends its appreciation to City staff who worked throughout the storm , and to its residents for cooperating with requests to be vigilant and prepared, and to refrain from being out in the storm and its aftermath, thus allowing our personnel to do their very best to ensure your safety.

We still don't have power, but generator is working just fine. During times like this, you get to appreciate so of the things we take for granted.
