Deer Hunting Season Starts Tomorrow!

Being a dedicated deer hunter isn’t everyone’s taste.  Living in Zimmerman Minnesota,  makes it abundantly clear to me that without hunting the whitetails, we would actually be harming them and ourselves.

I know that some don’t think highly of the sport because one of my associates and several of my wife’s friends have made this crystal clear.

But, in rebuttal, I will offer some great reasons and a website link as to why this is not only necessary, but good land management.

First, of all, the last couple of years, the population has gotten much larger, especially with the mild winter we had last year without much snow,

Those deer are in their second year without much of a normal snowfall which takes the lives of the old and weak.

If Zimmerman and much of Minnesota finds a winter like last year, there will be more deer-car accidents, more damage to landscape and more encounters with the population that normally stays “hidden.”

Read much more and find out about how Minnesota is managing the deer population and how hunting is restricted here.

Tomorrow, I will be off to the deer stand…and the phone on silent.  If  you need me, I can still email or text.

Have a great weekend!  I know I will.

I don't hunt because I can't kill a deer, but I don't have a problem with eating the meat once someone else has! It's the "circle of life" to eat them. As long as they're not endangerd (which deer aren't even close to), go for it! Best of luck!

I don't think I would be able to kill a deer but I would most certainly eat fresh venison at every given chance.  Have a great time!

I know I couldn't shoot a deer, but I don't mind deer sausage....if it's made right.

Hi Don -- my dad was a deer hunter so I have had my share of venison(prepared in many different ways) -- I know hunting can be a controversial subject -- I don't participate either in that conversation or in hunting - tried it as a kid with my dad but it just wasn't my thing.

Have a great time. I hope you get the one you want. You're right. Hunting is good management. I just don't agree with hunting for trophy purposes only.
