The Return of the Pink Pig
It’s not a Hollywood blockbuster super-hero sequel, but it is a good time and an Atlanta family tradition. On a recent shopping trip to Buckhead’s Lenox Square Mall, I noticed that it was already time to partition off part of the parking area to make space for the Pink Pig.
Since 2004, the Pink Pig, a small amusement park type ride for children, has appeared seasonally at Lenox Square, but for long-time Atlanta residents, this yearly tradition brings back memories of the original Pink Pig, located in the old Rich’s building in downtown Atlanta starting in 1953. Originally a monorail ride that circled around Rich’s great tree and flew over the toy department, families from all over the metro Atlanta area would make the yearly pilgrimage to ride the pink, named Pricilla.
Although the ride no longer leaves the ground and instead just circles around a parking deck / garage, kids still line up to take the ride every year and it makes for a great break in a day of holiday shopping.
