Respect Mutual Respect

Respect mutual respect, we respect our clients. We ask/except our clients to respect us. Is it to much to ask? Is it to much to except?

It is! Respecting someone does require their or gain their respect!

It is not enough to respect the client and except respect in return. It is necessary to respect the client even sales clerks in their own way respect their customers at least superficially. But, clerks may or may not be respected.

On the other hand real estate professionals need their clients respect! Real estate professionals have clients not customers. Clients have a contractual agreement with their real estate professional, such a agreement establishes respect.

Real estate professionals spend years learning their craft and practicing it just like medical and legal practitioners. With one major exception.

Medical and legal practitioners universally respect themselves! If you’re concuss you’ll never see a doctor before you’ve signed their contract, never. Lawyers will see you briefly, but will not act on your behalf or advise you until you’ve signed their contract. Their self-respect and professionalism commands respect!

Real estate professionals, listing agents work from a listing contract. Listing contracts also command respect.

Real estate licensees showing other agents listing to potential buyers, but having no such contract with the customers have no expectation of respect, regardless of their performance.

If you don’t respect yourself by demanding a contract for service like other professions why should you except the customer to respect you?

Agency became universal two decades ago what’s your excuse? Consumers using an agent with out a contract obligating the agent’s fiduciary to them are just plain ignorant, more about this soon, agents have no such excuse!

Bill,

I haven't done much on Active Rain for the last year, but I'm going to change that, and I thought I'd start with your blog!  Thanks for your kind words on Facebook.

Bill, I have never understood why some Agents are so afraid to ask for that contract.  I am not a Realtor, but if I was, there would be no way that I would take a Buyer out looking at houses with it.

George,

They think it's some new finagled idea.

Then again when I opened my first two real estate companies 36 years ago this month I had three true buyer's broker contracts complete with retainers in the first four days.

I took my first class on Buyer Brokering from Carol Dana Lewis, CCIM in '75 and had her put it on for the Board in '76. I remember that class well, I normally turned out 30 to 60% of the Board twice a month, but only got 10% for Carol. I felt real bad, but we did charge $100.00 a head.
