Hi Troy,  Hard to believe some folks are aware of these basic issues.  My question:  one of your pics showed a ledger nailed to the house.  What is the concern on that ?

Bill, the ledger needs to be properly flashed and bolted to the structure in order to support the different loads and forces placed on the deck. Here is an example below

Hi Troy,  O.k., I get it now.  Couldn't see from the pic that it was just attached over the siding !  Sheesh  !!
