Have you ever wondered why Tuesday was picked as our election day? It was sometime in the mid 18th century that our leaders decided to make every Tuesday following the 1st Monday in November the official election day for several reasons. But the number one reason was this:
Sunday was considered a Holy day of worship and that was out. Since the majority of citizens not living in cities were farmers, then needed to wait until harvest season would be finished so it wouldn't be a hardship to vote for any of them. Back in the mid 19th century and for many years proceeding, the polling places were located at the county seats. For some it was a day's ride in and back home. So that left Monday out since some people needed a day to get there and a day to get back home.
But the main reasoning for making it Tuesday was this, most news of the day was widely spread through church meetings on Sundays. Many citizens had no news of the day but what they got at church, conversing with friends and neighbors and what the church pastor would tell them about the latest news of the world. In that time, especially in rural areas, the preachers would tell their parishioners how they felt and what they thought God's perspective on the election would be. They were usually instructed to then go and fast and pray for a day before casting their ballots on Tuesday. You see it was not only acceptable but the government expected it. Does that sound like our government believed in separation of church and state to you?
This all changed back when Congress decided to create an IRS exemption of taxes on charitable donations. They created what is known as 501 3c groups. Most church and religious groups have this exemption so that anyone donating can deduct their tithes, offerings and donations from being taxed. Along with this came a gag order. Since the separation of church and state came into existence with that 1947 Supreme Court ruling which enjoined the 1st and 14th amendments, they insisted on taking all political persuasion powers away from the church. If you hear a preacher today blatantly telling their church how to vote or who to vote for, they are in direct violation and could lose their tax exempt status. This has come to be known as a kiss of death for religious organizations. Many feel that if they lose that, they will lose donations and revenue needed to survive.
Another not well known fact is that Billy Graham, America's pastor for 70 years and known to steer clear of any political leanings has always been a registered democrat his entire life. Franklin just admitted that in an interview. He has not voted democratic for sometime though since his party has decided to steer clear of God and His principles.
So the fasting and praying should be done now for all who call on the name of the Lord and it's time to cast your ballot. Please vote for Godly values. America still hangs in the balance but won't have much more time to return to the ways that made us great to begin with. This election is really a tipping point and we really don't want to know what lies on the wrong end of it. We voted early this morning FOR Godly values, FOR Life, FOR Marriage as laid down by God and FOR America the beautiful. It can be beautiful once again.
