Virginia ~> Can you imagine how much money you would have if you saved it every Friday??!!
And I remember the first time you ever voted and you were throwing the change and I was the one scrambling.
YOU THREW SILVER!!! Scramble supreme. We would pitch pennies and keep the change in a sock. Was this when we had the flour in socks?

Leslie ~> It's funny that you remember this and commented!! Of course I threw silver!!
I went to PS 26 in the small town of Travis and yes did experience the yearly tradition of bringing one of my dad's sock to the playground, wait for the Voters to leave the school and they would throw change (mostly pennies). The kids would "scramble" to get the money in hopes not to be trampled or stepped on. It was also called "sock day". Great memory but I don't think this happens anymore. Those were the days!!!!!! Kids having fun outside with other kids.

Annette,
Frank wonders if you have a brother. He recalls your maiden name. It's amazing after writing this blog over 5 years ago to receive a comment from someone who lived in Travis and experienced "Scramble"!
Hi Frank - I have never heard it described as scrambling, and it was not an election day thing. But my dad used to throw a handful of change in the living room on Fridays - payday. With 10 kids, it was pretty competitive. But no bruises, Mom was standing right there. My little sister loved the pennies, I would pass over the quarters to get the nickels - don't know why I liked them.
