Celebrating Freedom

VoteToday I was an official poll watcher in the election. And I am so pleased by what I observed. For the most part, people waited patiently in line and chatted happily with each other. Granted, a few people lost their tempers when they discovered that they were in the wrong polling station after they had waited in line an hour or more. But the majority of people were happily exercising their right to vote.

I live in a swing state so voter interest was quite high. The crowds were steady up until fifteen minutes before our poll closed. The atmosphere was festive, including applause for all first time voters who presented their voter ID card.

No matter who wins, I have to say I am proud to live in a county where we have this privilege and exercise it without fear.

Kathryn, this is an important election and evidently people are recognizing that and coming out to try and make a difference.

Ed:  It was exhausting to try to keep up with the lines of people! But it sure was fun!

Joan:  I am massaging my feet as I watch the results.

Kathryn, good for you!  This is the first time in a while I haven't been in the field.  I was afraid I'd jinx my guy!

Kathryn, it sounds like you are pretty tired from your long day, but also pretty happy about serving those who really needed your calming influence in your city and state election.  I applaude you.  Great job!

Patricia, I know exactly what you mean as far as being afraid to "jinx your guy."  I know you are an Obama supporter, as am I... and I have had some very similar thoughts.  I even hesitated to turn on the TV and watch the results... being fearful that some cosmic force would know that I was watching, and mess things up for the President.  Sounds silly, I know... but it also sounds like we're both feeling more than a hint of that.

I am watching the results right now... multi-tasking with reading and commenting... and as they say... so far, so good.

Patricia  I just loved the enthusiasm of everyone.

Karen:  I don't know that I would do it again. I got to the polls as 6 am and did not leave until 8:30.  I did not have time to eat unti 7 pm when the polls closed.  It was CRAZY!!!!

Good Morning Kathryn,  How I wished we had poll workers like you, ours wer enot proactive and the line seemed on the verge of chaos. I have never seen so many people. The same day registration was the cause of a lot of delay and confussion. Have a great day.

Thanks Scott!  We had confusion as well and there were a few people who got "testy"....however, it was still great to see so many people participating.
