The Electoral College vs. The Popular Vote - Time for Change

This will be a short post but important. I am, as many others tonight, watching the results from the election and Mitt Romney has been in the lead in the numbers reflecting the popular vote yet the election can come down to the "key states".

Look at the numbers, please. It is time to make a change to our election procedures - it is time to have the election determined by the popular vote. The electoral college made sense, to some degree, 100 years ago. It doesn't make sense today and it makes even less sense when a candidate has maintained a 4 point or more lead over the other candidate throughout the election coverage tonight and can still, potentially, lose.

God Bless America!

I'm with you, Catherine. I think EVERY vote should count, and with the electoral college, not every vote counts. Time for a change!

Yes, this process always bothered me.  It does not seem fair.  But, given that is that way, I'm so glad we weren't a swing state.  I can't imagine living through all those extra phone calls and ads.

I wonder Rose what would happen if we only used the popular vote? How would the candidates approach their campaign?

Debbie, I wish I was in a swing state. At least I would know my vote could make a difference. The only influence I have now is in the local elections. I wonder how many people don't bother to vote because of the current system?
