This weekend, November 10-11, is the fifth annual Treme Gumbo Festival. For two days in historic Armstrong Park, just outside the French Quarter, brass bands will play, gumbo will be eaten, and the good times will roll! Come see the newly opened park and enjoy the food and culture that gumbo inspires!
According to the Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation website, “The festival is a celebration of New Orleans' Treme neighborhood and the melting pot of cultures that led to the creation of jazz - as symbolized by the city's most famous culinary delight, gumbo.”
This festival is many New Orleanians favorite, with no pretense or fanfare, just a great time to let loose and enjoy the diversity of culture that is this great city. This festival has an all brass band line-up and some of the best gumbo on earth! The Dirty Dozen, the Soul Rebels, the Hot 8 and the Stooges are just a few of the groups who will perform. Several of the school groups from the Jazz & Heritage Foundation's new Class Got Brass competition will entertain as well. The festival will also feature a large arts market, perfect for holiday shopping for you or the ones you love
