I write this on election night while I wonder what my clients and potential clients are thinking. Not what they are thinking about the election, but about real estate. So much time and media attention and social media attention has been about the election. There was a quick break while Superstorm Sandy took center stage, but then the spotlight tilted back to election coverage.
I must admit that my attention is not on real estate all of the time.
Halloween is a big holiday in my family and we had a huge party this year. But at most social events that I attend, talk inevitably gets to real estate at some point. Questions about specific homes, prices on recent sales, availability of lots for sale, and commentary on local agents are often topics that are discussed, but the talk always starts with how is the local real estate market?
There are so many ways to answer that question. I tend to default with a positive response that describes the successes I am am having and seeing at my office. What I really want to hear is what the person says after I respond. It's like a test that I am given and then get a verbal grade. The response is usually telling. It involves their fear about an appraisal for refinancing or worry that a neighbor's house is priced wrong or disapproval with the treatment they received at a local open house.
What my clients think about the local real estate is really just like consumer confidence reports. But for me it, is local and personal.
I just listen, because I wonder what they're thinking. Do you wonder what your clients are thinking?
If you would like to tell me what you are thinking about the local real estate market, my number is 202-271-5301. Give me a call and I will listen.
