10 Signs That You Might Be a Home Stager

Home Stager with Seneca Home Staging

Am I a Home Stager?

Let's face it: if you're a home stager, you're a little bit different from the rest of society. You see things that others don't. You want to improve the look of every place you go. You feel uneasy if a space doesn't have the right balance or proportions. But, if you're not sure whether you have what it takes to be a home stager, consider the following characteristics.

You might be a Home Stager if:Woman Thinking About Something

  1. You scan your friends' and co-worker's photos for clues to their interior decorating.
  2. You lose track of the plotline when watching a movie or TV show because you're too busy studying the set designs.
  3. When someone asks you about a wedding reception you attended, you describe the color scheme, centerpieces, tablescapes, etc. in great detail, but forget to mention who said or did what to whom.
  4. Every time you enter a room, you begin to re-decorate it in your mind.
  5. A week after dining out, you remember everything about a restaurant's decor, but can't remember what you ordered.
  6. You can't take someone's picture without "staging" the background.
  7. All the clothes in your closet are arranged by color and type, and are hung on matching hangars.
  8. You spend more time selecting items for setting a beautiful holiday table than you do choosing your menu or cooking.
  9. Your favorite TV personalities are Sabrina Soto and Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott.
  10. When you were a kid, your favorite part about playing Barbies was setting up the furniture and rooms.

If you can identify with any of these, you might have a good career as a home stager. If not, then you should definitely hire a home stager whenever you want your home to make a good impression.

Janelle, You hit the nail on the head!  I can relate to every one of these except for maybe #7. While my friends are out shopping for more new shoes, I can't wait to get to Home Goods for new pillows!

Janelle, after reading your post, I have discovered that I am not a home stager....lol!  I would really like to think that I am, but what I do is more like making sure the toilet seat cover is down when I take a photo for the MLS.  Thanks for sharing this great post. ~Karen

Thank you Janelle. I had to chuckle at #10 remembering as a teenagers how I used to plot out my bedroom on graph paper, cut out bed, dresser, etc. and re-organize on paper before I actually moved anything.  When I married, my husband would come home from work and the house would be different than it was when he left in the morning.  What is my answer when asked how long I have been staging?  I respond, most of my life.  I love it and I love helping people.
