God's Bigger Picture Of Hope

By
Industry Observer

I ran into a lot of long faces today. I was asked, "Aren't you depressed?" I said certainly not. My hope is in the Lord and not a man in the Oval Office. I would never mistake the two. So when I read this today, I knew I had to share...

God's Bigger Picture Of Hope In Disappointment

Hear God's Word for you in Isaiah 49:23. "Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed." And Romans 12:12. "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer."

Hope is a promise of God, a position in him, and a command. This week we will enter in to the promise, next week the position, and the following week the command.

The Promise Of Hope

The presence of the Holy Spirit lives in you, filling you with assurance that God cannot disappoint you. Be blessed with confidence that the sovereign Lord of your life is in charge of your circumstances. When expectation delays, when your hope is waiting without fulfillment, when disappointment tries to overwhelm you, you can have confidence in your Father, because you know that he is in control. He is Lord; he can't get it wrong. When you are tempted with hopelessness, your Father says that those who wait for him, those who hope in him, will never be put to shame.

The psalmist said, "One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong, and that you, O Lord, are loving" (Ps 62:11-12). Your confidence in him will never disappoint you, because he is strong and loving. Be blessed with security and safety because your hope is anchored in your Father's unchanging love and strength. Be blessed with the truth of Psalm 16:5-6. "He is my portion... He maintains my lot." Your Father's eyes are on those who hope. Be blessed to submit your soul to him, because your soul will ask the wrong questions. The question is not "Why?" Be blessed with asking your Father the right question as your gaze is fixed on him. The right question is "How?" Be blessed with knowing that he is your "how." Be blessed with this dialogue with your soul. "The Lord is my portion," says my soul. "Therefore I hope in Him!" (Lam 3:24).

God dwells with those who hope in him, and he is enough. Your Father speaks hope to you, hope in him that does not disappoint, because he dearly loves you. Be blessed in God's promise that the desire he gives leads where he wants you to go: learning to endure, developing strength of character, in confident expectation of seeing the glory of his purposes for you and in his joy in hope. Jesus is your promised hope.

Receive the prayer of Paul in Ephesians 1:18-21. "I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given..." You are seated in heavenly realms in hope, in the name of your glorious Father.

Be blessed in the name of the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,
so that you may know your Promise of hope (Eph 1:17).

Bob, the fact that Obama got re-elected does not bother me as much as what is coming down the pike from Obamacare bill.

Bob, one of my renters(black lady who voted against Obama) told me Obama would be re-elected and the mark of the beast would be here in March 2013. Can you do a post and expound on that?

Scott: Yes, we have no right to complain. I know that I know that I know that God isn't doing the Genesis thing and regretting making man, there will be no more floods to wipe us out. He's not anxious one bit.

Mike: Yes, we'll be heavily impacted by it too since we will be taxed, no wait, fined, no wait... what's it being called now? Freedom is never free and costing us more and more each day. I'm not sure I would consider myself an expert on eschatology. I only know that the mark will be offered and that you'll need it to buy or sell anything. Would credit cards be the first version... sort of MOB 1.0? The under the skin chip is MOB 2.0? I try not to post until I hear the Lord talking about something, they just don't turn out well when it's my idea.

Bob - it is wonderful you have that refuge in religion. I don't. Whether it is good or bad. And I am frustrated.

I am so thankful that my hope is not dependent on my circumstances and that my JOY is in Christ Jesus!

Jon, I appreciate your honesty. One must first and foremost be honest with themselves. I was in your boat just 7 years and 2 days ago. November 6th, 2005 was the day when I shed my skin and deep belief that there was no God. I met Him. I fell in love with Him. On that day I had two choices, a) I was going crazy and needed a psychiatrist or b) God is real and He really does love me and wants me to know Him more. I of course chose the b plan. I was raised in a religious family meaning we went to church every Sunday. Slowly as we got older our father stopped going. As a young man he confided in me that he lost his faith in the church. But God is not the church, Jesus is not the men you see parading around saying they are the way to God. If you ever are interested in hearing the Gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ), just let me know. It's so much more simpler than you could ever imagine and once you have that, you have everything you'll ever need. To receive Christ into your heart is to receive everything. I have never looked back in the past 7 years and I've not been disappointed in my decision, not once. As our faith has risen so has the signs and wonders (miracles) around us. I've got real true stories that raise the hair on my own neck when telling them. Jon, Jesus loves you so much and He wants nothing but the best for you. He has a plan for your life, a plan to prosper you, to make you into exactly what He envisioned before placing you in your mother's womb. All this is yours for the asking regardless of who is in power in our government. Something rocked me the other day... I have always admired Billy Graham, America's pastor for the last 70 years, a man who was without scandal in all those years, his son admitted on a TV interview that Billy has been a lifelong democrat and has never changed party affiliation. It suddenly made me see the other party much differently. But even Billy just admitted they've taken a very wrong turn lately.

Joni: Your joy is contageous! Keep it flowing. We need to burn much brighter in the days to come and not be shaken by the world.

I know God has a plan and I know I have no idea what it is concerning the re-election of 0bama.

I don't even know how to say what I am praying.....I praying for God's plan to be completed? Maybe that is the closest to what I am praying for.

It will be completed in His time and His schedule.

I am disappointed in the American people. We will have 4 more years of debt and stupidity. The republican leadership is already showing/making signs being weak.

Bob -- what a great uplifting message for those who may think things didn't work our right.  We've been praying for God's will to be done in the election for couple months now (both in our congregation and personally) - but it can sometimes be a bit disheartening even then.  Thanks for the uplift!

Than: I've heard it said that if God doesn't judge America, He'll need to apologize to Sodom and Gemorrah. Maybe this is part of his judgement. Our light doesn't shine at high noon on a sunny day, but take that light into the dark of night and everyone will see it. Just keep shining, that's what we're called to do.

Steven: Ever wonder if you kept eating and never fasted or prayed if we'd had the same results? It's sort of like the Olympian who trains as hard as he can for 4 years and comes in dead last in his race. He could have eaten Twinkies every day and still come in last. But we're not called to run a shabby race. Simply put, the Republican party picked a man with money instead of one of more substance. It's pretty desperate when Billy Graham, a lifelong registered democrat backs a man who's religion was considered a cult on his website just months ago. And he's never formally endorsed any candidate before... ever. But here's the thing, we've exercised our spiritual muscles, we've pushed against a boulder that would not budge thinking we accomplished nothing but when a smaller boulder needs moved, we'll find our spiritual muscles will meet that challenge. Eventually we will be able to tell the mountain to be tossed into the sea and it will obey. Keep praying and fasting, this was just one battle, the war is yet to be decided... and we've read the outcome and know how it all ends. We win.

One thing is certain - America is not a "Christian Nation".  We can drop all pretenses of that.

Another thing is certain - Jesus Christ will come again, to receive His own, and take us to Glory.  Are we ready for His coming?

Fred, Sadly your words ring true. Veritas! Christo et Ecclesiae has been removed for quite sometime from Harvard's entrance. Now it's just Veritas -truth without Christ and the church... which we know is not possible. We're ready here but there is much work to be done yet.

Mike, I know what you mean but we have got to stop thinking like that. Jesus left us in charge and He is coming back for a spotless bride. Remember the 10 virgins awaiting the master's return? 5 were smart enough to do all the prep and keep enough oil on hand, the other 5 were left out because they were just too anxious for his return. That story is telling us to be ready, to make sure our oil is enough to keep burning a bright light and not sit around and just wait. There is much work to be done. We can't afford to be caught out of oil. Stay full.

Hope means you are living in times of despair. Knowing that God exists and your true salvation is in heaven, and not in this temporary world, maybe your outlook on life is off if you are seeking hope. Maybe Obama is doing the lord's work and you are fooled by the promises of the devil (aka Romney). Maybe you should be rejoicing on Obama's victory rather than seeking hope?

I think God could care less if Obama got re-elected.  There are far bigger matters in the universe as to whether one country (out of thousands throughout history) declines, whether we pay too much or too little taxes, whether welfare is good or bad.  All the people starving, plagues, terrorists, crime, etc., are (or should be) of much more concern to him and you see how much he is doing about those things.
