What is EDDM - Every Door Direct Mail

EDDM also known as Every Door Direct Mail is a hot new program from the United States Postal Service helping Realtors(R) everywhere really expand their businesses. With postage rates as low as 14.5 cents and no need for a database or mailing list, Realtors(R) are able to get complete market saturation at a fraction of the cost compared to other postcard mailing options. Agents can do "direct mail" marketing through the post office, mail as few as 200 postcards/mailing pieces for about $30 bucks!  It makes it affordable to do the type of marketing necessary to grow a real estate practice. You can start a farm for about $30 a month if you're mailing about 200 pieces.

Postcard size requirements as outlined by the USPS are in the image to the right. The best way to approach a postcard mailing program like this is to have a printing company like PrinterBees design and print your postcard to the EDDM specifications. Printing at home costs more and doesn't look nearly as professional.  It looks like...well, that you did it yourself and printed it at home. :-)

PrinterBees has a team of graphics designers that customize any postcard marketing piece/design found on the website at no additional fee. The design services are FREE as is the printing proof, the tax and shipping. You also save yourself the time and frustration because you know your marketing piece has been created to the correct specifications. There's nothing more frustrating than enthusiastically showing up at the Post Office with a big mailing ready to go felling excited about the opportunity of business that may come from it, only to be turned away because it isn't correct.

The cost of ordering color postcards is anywhere from about .07-.013 cents and it is totally okay to mail the same postcard more than once which lowers your costs even more.  PrinterBees also has campaigns that are ready to go as well, you choose four postcards you like and let us do the rest.  The prices on the site include tax, shipping and design, no hidden fees!

The USPS has made this program as simple as possible because it's targeted for small businesses to saturate the markets surrounding their businesses with direct mail advertising. As a Realtor(R), you should be taking advantage of this program, $30 to mail to 200 homes!!! That fits any starving Realtor's(R) budget.  It's perfect for Just Sold/Just Listed postcard campaigns, which really DO work in generating more listings. We see the success with Just Listed/Just Sold postcards all the time.

One of the main principles of marketing and advertising is Position and Place. How might direct mail position your offer or your business as a 'the best choice' offering the greatest value? How do you know if the direct mailer is going to the right place (in the hands of your target market) without getting lost in a ton of other mailers.

Unfortunately, direct mailers do not separate you from the crowd or competition. It certainly will not show the immense amount value your business brings to the table. Your ultimate goal should be to make sure your brand, your business, is in front of your true target market- people looking to buy and sell homes. Your strategies should be interactive and engaging to create a connection, convey value, and demonstrate credibility.

My recommendation- be where not only where your target market is, but align yourself with spaces and places that best display what your brand and business is all about. Go where you competition cannot. Trust me, they've probably already beat you to mailers and their likely not seeing much of a return either.

My goal is to help professionals in real estate not only get in front of their target market, grow their brand & credibility, but must importantly align and partner with the best in the business to generate incremental business.
