ANOTHER NASTY NOR'EASTER

As if Superstorm Sandy weren't enough, to add insult to injury, another nasty Nor'easter came in on its heels and brought high winds, cold temps and as much as a foot of snow in some parts. Folks still struggling without lights, heat and hot water didn't even have time to catch their breath before another onslaught from Mother Nature.  Jill Sackler

Once again, schools are closed. It seems like they've been closed more than they've been opened this year. Even the FEMA office in Staten Island, one of the worst hit areas, did not open their doors, introducing even less goodwill to a neighborhood that has felt largely ignored throughout this ongoing recovery effort.

About 8,000 people remain without power in the tri-state area, as of this morning. Some lost power for the second time when snow and ice weighed down trees and electrical lines.

The good news is that temps are expected to warm up this weekend, giving everybody a well-deserved break from the misery they've endured so far.

Good morning Jill. You took the words and pictures right out of my mouth and hands. It will get warm, it will get warm, it will get warm. This too shall pass. I hope you still have power, I do. Fingers crossed.

Don't tell anybody, the kids here would love some snow. We have been lucky for years when it comes to power outages. Very few and short as our lines are all underground.

Hi Jill, It just seems too soon for snow! I know you've gotten hit hard as well as many on Long Island. The news here in Portland does consentrate on New Jersey...but I did note that the Today show had a news crew out to the island. I've heard gas is a huge issue..or lack of it so is keeping folks home because they just can't drive anywhere. I hope this one wasn't a one-two punch for you!

Thanks, Gita.

I do have power, Sheila. I'm one of the lucky ones.

Rob - Even underground lines suffered over here with Hurricane Sandy. They also lost power. Snow is always fun for children, though.

Dan - It does seem that way, doesn't it?

Cindy - You can't even imagine what's going on here. So, so many people still without heat, hot water, lights even 10 days after the storm and it's in the 30's. I finally got gas the other day - waited 1 1/2 hrs. to get it. My daughter wasn't as lucky. She finally got to the front of the line and they put up a sign "no more gas." Tomorrow, we start odd/even number days.

Jill: Geez, hang in there!  It's actually pretty nice here in Michigan, so it's a bit sobering to see your blizzard photo!  I hope the weather clears up for everyone there soon!

Wow!  You got hit much harder than we did here in NH.  We had an inch or two of snow and it's already gone.

Andrew - the weather warmed up and it cleared up in a day or two.

Sheila - A freak storm similar to last year's at the end of October.

Sharon - ours didn't last long either. The hardest part was that people who had just gotten back power lost it again when more power lines went down.

Thank you Wendy. It is beautiful but the timing was just a bit off. Also, we needed to get the kids back in school.
