Do You Have a Smart Desk?

Do You Have a Smart Desk?

I heard a great quote today that really resonated with me, and prompted this post. Perhaps it will strike a chord with you as well.

Council of Residential Specialists (CRS)I am attending the Annual CRS Meetings in Orlando, as a member of our Chapter leaderships and as a national Education Forum committee member. Today was a special day-long series called Listing Legends, a topic for another post. But the lead-in to the session, by moderator Dale Charlton, posed the question...

Do you have a smart desk?

We've all attended educational sessions, seminars, expos and other meetings where we brought home pages of notes on great stuff we could implement in our businesses, books on every real estate tip in the world, cool CDS and DVDs, gadgets, subscriptions to websites, and so much more.

I am ashamed to admit some of those books sit unread on the shelf, cellophane is in place on CDs, and web sites remain as they were when purchased.

How about you?

That hasn't happened to you, has it?

Educational materials cost MONEYOK, it's not quite that dire, but I made a commitment a few years back to stop this foolishness, and my credit card thanks me. I simply leave it behind so I’m not tempted. It’s worked well.

In terms of the Listing Legends sessions today, however, there was a ton of great learning from some of the top listing agents in the CRS organization around the country, an unparalleled sharing of ideas in my 10 years of real estate conferences.

I’ve started my list of the top 20 things to implement, that I will cull down, hopefully, to 5 or so in order to make it all happen by the end of 2012 in preparation for 2013.

My plan is to make sure that I don’t have a smart desk, but a smart business.

Are there things you have learned about, seen, or bought that could be put to work in your business? Or do you have a smart desk?

Hi Jeff, The best advise and counsel in our business happens through CRS. Hope to hear more about this endeavor as you begin to implement your new smart business activities.

What a great post.  I have purchase a number of programs etc.  I make sure I listen to them and do what I can to implement ideas.  I like to hear great ideas on how to build and sustain a stong profitable business. You've made me turn around a look at my bookshelf.  One good thing is that I can alway access the material.

It sounds like a great conference Jeff.

There is something synergistic about the sharing of ideas.

Can't say that I do because I have only a handful of books that read over and over, the others I have collected or bought I have given away when I got through with them due to they were not worthy of keeping.

William - well I will share - I have a 5-hour plane ride tomorrow to work on this. I learned a ton of stuff and while I can't possibly implement it all there are some great tips of things to do regarding generating listing leads, marketing them, and working with sellers.

Frank - there you go!! Doesn't do much good to sit on the shelf, does it?

Tom - it's been a great combination of administration for CRS, educcation, networking and fun.

Joyce - lucky you. Sounds like you have managed it appropriately.

The more paperless I go, the smarter my desk is. I am intrigued by this question.
