*ATHENA, BRUTUS, CAESAR* WHAT DO THESE NAMES HAVE IN COMMON AND WHY?

These names are the New Winter Storm Names!!

Since when did they start naming winter storms? The weather channel has decided to start naming noteworthy storms stating "A storm with a name is easier to follow, which will mean fewer surprises and more preparation."

The goal is to raise awareness to the public. With social media involved, information will fly, hash tags and all. What better time than now to bring on a new entertaining concept than naming a winter storm "Brutus", which is the next storm the weather channel is watching form.

Very interesting and makes sense to a degree to name them so more are aware.  I wonder whose job it is to name storms...and do they put it to a vote.  Do they have a book of storm names like they do books for baby names lol :)?

Brenda ~ Historically names have been attached to storms after the fact ... The problem is although we have a Hurricane Center, we don't have a "Winter Storm Center" ...  So the Weather Channel has decided since they have the ability of reporting storms, they might as well name them .. As to where the names came from ... maybe they picked them out of a hat ...

Hi folks -- it is interesting that they had to jumble together Greek and Roman names to make their list.  Or is it that they just didn't know enought ancient history to tell the difference?   Will they be using Norse and Goth for the next list?
