Dog Gone!  Commerce City Greyhound Park Being Demolished

I love it when a developer gets the community involved!

greyhoundCommerce City will be demolishing the former Greyhound Park race track on Saturday.  The have invited the public to attend.

Prior to the actual demolition, the have invited the community to a free event which will allow folks to have one last look at the park and learn what the future has planned for the 56 acre park.

Greyhounds raced at the track from 1949 through 2008.  Commerce City’s Urban Renewal Authority bought the 65 acre site with plans to redevelop.

The event starts at 10:30 am tomorrow at Greyhound Park, 6200 Dahlia Street, Commerce City, Colorado.

This will be a great chance for an outstanding photo opportunity!

Good!  Greyhound racing is a cruel, brutal sport with thousands of dogs killed when they are no longer money makers or don't ever become good racers. I hope they put in something nice and something that lifts up the community.

Oh Belinda,  I would of like to seen Rocky and Brandy run out there just once.  Oh well.

Leslie,  I couldnt agree more.  The thought of those poor little dogs chasing a fake rabbit round and round.  Maybe thats why the Park didnt make it.  I wouldn't enjoy watching that any more than you would.  Us doglovers have to stand firm.

Hi Belinda - Are they using a whole bunch of dynamite to blow it up? That would be fun to watch. I'm with Leslie on the problems with the "sport" - there are lots of rescue greyhounds around, and the ones I have met all seem to have had a tough life before.

Belinda,

What a great marketing idea to invite the community to attend.  On the subject of Greyhounds, it is so sad, and we have been to a dog show with Greyhound rescues...they are beautiful dogs, and they have lots of beautiful people who have championed their cause.  A

Belinda, Now that developer had some forward thinking. Those angry can come and he can tell them how beautiful his plan is.

Belinda, Great idea to have one last look, but I have to agree...what a cruel "sport" this is!

We have a greyhound race track in Texas City. I have been once and enjoyed it. When I found out about what happened to dogs later on I never went again. They are not like horses who are then bred. These dogs if not adopted are put to sleep.

I didn't realize what a cruel sport this is. I learned a lot from reading the above comments. I think it's unusual but nice that the town is inviting you to have one last look.
