Veterans Day 2012: Free meals Saturday-Monday

Veterans Day has held a special place in my heart- long before I ever became a veteran myself. Call it old-fashioned, "old school" or whatever you choose to call it, but I've always had a profound respect for member of our military (and folks I've proudly called my fellow veterans for the past 17 years now). I pray that will forever remain so.
The photos above are two that I took when I visited the World War II Memorial a few years back- to honor my paternal grandfather, 1st Lt. William G. McEachern, 136th Texas National Guard, Bronze Star, Silver Star and 2x Purple Heart recipient from the Battle of San Pietro and the fight to take the Rapido River in 1944.
Each star in my photo represents 100 American men and from World War II who were either killed in action or remain missing from it. The 405,399 men lost in the war are rivalled only by the 620,000 men whose lives were lost in The War Between the States that was anything but civil.
This weekend, please share this post and information with any veterans you feel may benefit from it- or better yet, find a veteran who might otherwise eat alone and have a meal with 'em- you never know what you can learn from a hero.
