Rememberance Day Service West Vancouver

Lest we forget...  Sunday, November 11, 2012.  Every year we troop down to the Memorial Service at the Cenotaph, across from the West Vancouver Library, located at 20th and Marine Drive.  This service is to pay tribute to the men and women who have layed down their lives for the safeguarding of freedom and democracy. This is a very touching ceremony that always brings a lump to my throat.  Rain or shine, the Memorial Day Parade is well attended, so make sure you get there early.

The parade begins at 10:45am followed by the service at 11am at the Memorial Arch.  After the ceremony, refreshments are served in the library.  Brush up on your Vera Lynn, as there is usually a sing-song as well.  I hope you "pack up your troubles", and join the community at the Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Hi Sally,

Thanks for reminding us of this event!   I am particularly thankful because it reminds me that November 11, 2001 was a very, very important event in our lives (think Vermont, Justice of the Peace)....  Anyway, totallyl forgot about last year's ten year anniversary, maybe I'll remember this year's 11th anniversary......  What can I say - men!

Remembrance Day and Veteran's Day-so gratefull to those who have served our countries and I too always cry when I am reminded of the sacrifices they have made.  My dad is a WW11 vet who earned the Silver Star and I always remind him how proud I am to say that!

Remembrance day is a very special day, I wish they would make it a statutory holiday. Enjoy the service in Vancouver Sally.

Tom - How appropriate that that case came down on November 11th.  Today is definitely a day for reflection.

Valerie - How lovely that you're able to remember your Mother as well on Remembrance Day.

Roger - It's really a lovely ceremony.

Joanna - Would love to hear how your dad earned the Silver Star.  My grandfather and father both served in the Royal British Navy in WWI and WWII.  So proud of them both.

Malcolm - It's a Stat holiday in B.C.  I never understood why it wasn't the same all across the country.

Sally, it's a very special day. We are fortunate to have a fly over by a Lancaster bomber every year.

Janice - The old airplanes add such a nice touch.  I love the sounds of their engines from another era.  It really transports you through time.

Sharon - It's such a touching ceremony.  The music, the parade, the two minutes silence, the Last Post trumpet solo... it all gets to me.
